[HK] The Buzz of Working at LegCo

For the past 2 weeks, I have been getting a taste of Hong Kong politics from behind the scenes…

Hong Kong’s legislature, named Legislative Council (LegCo), is where laws are enacted. It has the function of controlling public expenditure and monitoring the work of the Government.  LegCo is composed of 35 members who are elected from geographical constituencies and 35 from functional constituencies (e.g. Textiles & Garment, Medical).

I, myself have been spending some time in the LegCo offices of Hon. Regina Ip and Hon. Michael Tien, both of whom represent the New People’s Party and their own geographical constituencies.  And thus I have gained an insight into how things work for people who you would only usually see on TV.

A lot of preparation is required before a LegCo member turns up to a meeting. Hence the team…
